Bring more energy to your leadership
You give life to what you bring your energy to
One of the ways you can boost your leadership impact is to think about how you can bring more energy to your work and life.
Energy is an extraordinary resource and below we’ve outlined four energies and some of the key qualities associated with each. To help you think about how to boost your energy read through the descriptions for each and assess where you are strong and where you might need to pay more attention (criteria: 1 = low 5 = high)
Physical energy …. You bring drive and persistence. You bring presence and attack. In your meetings you like to speak up, get on with things and focus on results

Intellectual energy … You work best when you have a plan and an agenda. You bring focus and clarity. You look for evidence and you like to think things through properly before you take action.

Emotional energy. You enjoy working and collaborating with others. Trust is important to you. You are good at picking up the mood of a room and you enjoy it most when you leave people feeling valued and encouraged

Spiritual energy. It’s important for you to have a strong belief in what you are doing. You take decisions based on what’s the right thing to do and you are inspired by vision, possibility and purpose.

Very few of us are brilliant at all these energies. But once we become aware of our strengths and weaknesses we can consciously work on bringing more of the energy that’s needed to boost our impact. So for example we might get on with things (physical energy) or be more thoughtful (intellectual energy) or work on being a better listener (emotional energy) or bring more vision (spiritual energy). As a leader it’s our job to manage our energies and in so doing benefit both our work and the people we are involved with.
